About Music is Dope
A mission-driven platform that connects the music industry with the world of recovery
Meet the Founder
Marshall Kearney is a retired Project Manager that knows firsthand the impact that music can have on the soul and mental wellness. Driven by personal family experiences with addiction and recovery, Marshall founded Music is Dope with a simple but powerful belief—that music has the power to heal, inspire, and restore hope.
When Music Finds Its Deeper Purpose
Music is Dope is more than a platform. It's a bridge that connects talented musicians with recovery facilities that serve the most vulnerable members of our communities. Marshall's mission is to turn performances into moments of real and meaningful impact.
A Path Where Sound Becomes Healing
Addiction touches millions of lives, reaching far beyond individuals into families, communities, and futures. But within that reality, recovery remains possible-and connection is often the first step. At Music is Dope, we believe music can become that connection. A bridge between struggle and hope. A way for people to feel seen, heard, and supported again.
We bring working musicians directly into recovery spaces to share stories, perform, and create moments of genuine human connection that inspire healing.
The Impact of Addiction
Addiction affects nearly 48 million Americans with substance use disorders, while alcohol addiction impacts roughly 1 in 10 people. Over 87,000 lives are lost annually to overdoses. The combined financial burden exceeds $520 billion in healthcare, lost productivity, and criminal justice costs.
Turning Performances Into Moments of Hope
We aim to bring working musicians directly into recovery facilities to share their stories, perform, and inspire hope.
Every Background, Every Story & Every Note Matters
Musicians with all backgrounds are welcome to perform, and those with a history of recovery are encouraged to share their stories and inspire others. Musicians will be requested to participate in a minimum of 2 activities per year, ranging from personal visits to remote video sessions or even pre-recorded messages. Explore our list of facilities to find locations to connect with.
Where Coordination Creates Connection
Recovery Facilities will need to coordinate contact, communication and scheduling details with musicians and provide accommodations for visiting their facility, video sessions or prerecorded messages. Event details will be registered on the Music is Dope Event page to track participation and give credit to the artists. Promoting awareness of interested musicians helps with publicity and continuing to connect with wider audiences!
Be the Voice That Brings Others In
We also open our arms for volunteers; your help with promoting awareness and drumming up enthusiasm helps us connect with new artists and facilities. Word of mouth and social media presence help us grow!
